About the Club
The Aquatic Explorers Scuba Club is dedicated to promoting and protecting the sport of scuba diving. It provides
members with a network of recreational and professional divers to share experiences, learn from, and dive with.
The scuba club was first Incorporated June 21, 1957 as the Empire State Rescue Squad and began teaching Scuba
in 1958. In 1960 the name was changed to the Aquatic Explorers and participated in many dive activities in
the local lakes and rivers.
Today the club has trips all over New York (including the St. Lawrence, Lake George, Lake Champlain, the Delaware
river) and, through the clubs partnership with Marsh Scuba, to other locations around the US and the world (including
Dutch Springs, Cape Ann, Grand Cayman, Bonaire). The club also maintains its own air shed giving members free access to
breathing air 24 hours a day, every day.
The annual Wappingers Creek Water Derby, an 8 mile canoe and kayak race down the scenic
Wappingers Creek, is also hosted by the club and runs the last Saturday in April.
The club meets the first Monday of every month at 8:00 PM at the American Legion Hall on Overlook Road in Poughkeepsie, NY.
