Looking forward to a great race this year.  The 46th that we've sponsored so far!  Race day this year is April 23rd.  We're looking forward to seeing you all out there.  Takea  look at our Canoe Race page for updates and information regarding this years derby.

If you'd like to see the results of the race, take a look

Take a look at our newsletter.  You can find it here.  Also, it's posted on facebook, and on our meetp page.  Not a lot of new things to report this month.  Apparently it was slow, but we'll hopefully start picking up soon.

Please check our latest newsletter, facebook or meetup.com for dates and times.

Finally, contact Colleen Melville with any ideas or suggestions you may have for club dives.  The season's upon us and we have a ton and a half of great dive sites in the area.

About Us

The Aquatic Explorers Scuba Club is dedicated to promoting and protecting the sport of scuba diving. It provides members with a Aquatic Explorers Club Bannernetwork of recreational and professional divers to share experiences, learn from, and dive with.

The scuba club was first Incorporated June 21, 1957 as the Empire State Rescue Squad and began teaching Scuba in 1958. In 1960 the name was changed to the Aquatic Explorers and participated in many dive activities in the local lakes and rivers.

Today the club has trips all over New York (including the St. Lawrence, Lake George, Lake Champlain, the Delaware river) and to other locations around the US (including Dutch Springs, Cape Ann, Grand Cayman, Bonaire). The club also maintains its own air shed giving members free access to breathing air 24 hours a day, every day.

The annual Wappingers Creek Water Derby, an 8 mile canoe and kayak race down the scenic Wappingers Creek, is also hosted by the club and runs the last Saturday in April.

The club meets the first Monday of every month at 7:30 PM at the American Legion Hall on Overlook Road in Poughkeepsie, NY.
